Very Late Obituary Notice

Manuel Delgadillo notified me that a friend of his Douglas C. Arnburg that worked at the plant had passed away in 2015 and he wanted to let Doug's friends know of his passing. Doug worked at the plant for 30 plus years and took the last buyout from Commscope.
Douglas C. Arnburg
Arnburg, Douglas C.

September 4, 1950 - July 28, 2015
Doug is survived by his sister Paulette Schaaf of Minneapolis, MN.
Doug loved learning and was always taking classes at UNO and Creighton University. He stated a number of times that he thought he might be a professional student. There was no service when Doug passed and he was buried at Fort Snelling, MN.

This afternoon I received an email from Shirley Ingram asking if anyone had contacted me about the passing of Norman Schuttler. I told her no and asked if it was in the OWH and what funeral home handled the service. Norman's service was this morning at 10 am and this now becomes a late notice I am sending. Norman worked 36 plus years at the Omaha Works as a toolmaker retiring on 3/3/1997.
Norman R. Schuttler
Schuttler, Norman R.

April 21, 1934 - November 29, 2018
Norman Robert Schuttler sometimes referred to as “Storman Norman” was preceded in death by his father and mother Louis and Louise Schuttler and brother Donald Schuttler. He is survived by his sister Mary Lou, sister-in-law Berniece, nephews Gregory (Robin) and Stephen Schuttler. Children Robert Fickler, Karen (Alan) Radda, Linda (Randy) Ingram, Troy (Becca) Klimek. 10 grandchildren: Ashley, Tammy, Alan Jr, Adam, Megan, Amber, Kevin, Kaitlyn, Landin and Alex and one great- grandchild, Kaia.

Norman grew up on a farm in Rippey, Iowa. He worked on the farm until he went into the Army where he served in the Korean War. He received an Honorable Discharge as a Specialist 3rd class. After his service to his country, he did odd jobs around Iowa until the time decided to go back to school. He attended Boone Community College and then The University of Iowa where he earned his degree in engineering.

How did Norman move from the farm in Iowa to Nebraska? One day Norman and his brother Donald were bringing cattle to the stockyards and somehow they got lost (those farm boys). They ended up out in West Omaha, on “L” Street, near Western Electric. Norman told his brother “I’m going to come back and get a job there.” That is exactly what he did. Norman first rented a room at 7785 Maywood Street in Ralston and then in May 1967 he bought a home in Ralston where he lived for over 50 years. It wasn’t the house however that got his attention but that he could build a nice BIG garage in the back.

When he first stared at the company it was Western Electric, next it became AT&T and then another name change to Lucent Technologies under which he retired. Norman worked his entire career there which was 36 year and 5 months. Most of Norman’s work there was spent as a tool maker.

When it came to marriage Norman wanted to find just the right person to marry. This took Norman until he was 72 years old, but he finally found that person in Carol. They were married on September 27, 2006 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Norman was a member of the Midwest Car Club, Classic Chevy Club, American Legion Post # 373 in Ralston and the Future Farmers of America. He was also a member of Master Mason of the Papillion Lodge #39 for over 60 years.

Norman had a love for all cars or really anything on wheels. He was a great NASCAR fan and his favorite drivers were Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. He also loved restoring old cars to their original form. The first car he restored was 1926 Model T Touring car. He then brought home a 1971 Chevy Big Block pickup. Carol wanted to know what he was going to do with such a rusted out old truck. When Norman completed the restoration, the truck was beautiful. When he would take the truck out for a drive, people would always comment on it, or on occasion they would follow him home asking if he wanted to sell it. Next came the 1937 Chevy Coup, which he beautifully restored to original condition. Norman also loved going to car tours and talking with the other owners about their cars.

Clarion “Rock” Haynes, Jr.
November 26, 2018
10/20/1941 – 11/21/2018
Clarion, or Rock as he was always known, was born October 20, 1941, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Clarion (C.O.) and Frances Haynes. He was very active in Boy Scouts as a youth and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1955. From there, he graduated to an Explorer Post, where he was one of the last to earn the coveted Silver Award in Boy Scouts.
Rock graduated from Benson High School in 1959 and worked for Western Electric (part of AT&T) from 1960 to 1977. He married the love of his life, Wanda Lou Striker, on July 4th, 1964, and together they had three children: Jody, Dawn, and Kyle.
In 1977, Rock relocated his family to West Point, Nebraska, to more formally pursue his interest in photography, by purchasing the local studio. As the proprietor of Haynes Portrait Gallery for the next 20 years, Rock specialized in senior portraits, weddings, and family photography. However, he also had a keen interest in wildlife and landscape photography, and he planned annual family vacations to various parts of the country in part to expand his nature photographic palette.
Within two months of moving to West Point, the local scoutmaster quit. Rock took over and remained the Scoutmaster of Troop 165 for the next 20 years, and both Jody and Kyle earned Eagle Scout under his leadership. He also led the troop on eight High Adventures, covering the entire U.S.
Rock earned his Wood Badge beads, served on Wood Badge staff, and was awarded the highest honor a Council can bestow on a volunteer—the Silver Beaver Award—in 1984. He also served as the District Roundtable Commissioner for four years, District Advancement Chairman for ten years, and District Training Chair for six years.
Rock also participated in the BSA College of Commissioner Science education program. Over a five year period, he earned his Bachelor, Masters, and ultimately his Doctorate of Commissioner Science degree—which included writing a thesis and passing his orals.
Besides donating his time to Scouts, Rock was also dedicated to his family. He and Wanda were married for 54 years, and he was extremely proud of all three of his children.
Rock also enjoyed travel and was fortunate enough to have visited all 50 states, Mexico, and a majority of the Canadian provinces. He was also able to do a number of cruises, including Alaska and a number of islands in the Caribbean. His ultimate goal was to make it to Australia. Although he never did, he lived a rich and full life, helping to shape the lives of many boys into men and leaving behind a legacy of children and two beautiful grandchildren, Krystal and Cherri-Anna.
Clarion “Rock” Haynes is preceded in death by his Brother: Charles Haynes; He is survived by his Wife of 54 years: Wanda; Children: Jody Haynes, Dawn Haynes, Kyle Haynes; Grandchildren: Krystal Briggs, Cherri-Anna Haynes; Sister: Arlene Haynes.

Ronald Allen Schmidt
Schmidt, Ronald Allen

Mar 19, 1946 - Nov 19, 2018
Ron, age 72, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family with his dog LuLu by his side. Ron is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ruby; son, Ronald Allan Schmidt II (Shelly); daughter, Wendy Trench; daughter, Sandra Bowman (Loren); son, Scott Schmidt (Chris); daughter, Loretta Gray (Curt); daughter, Patti Sorensen (David); 13 grandchildren and 8 ½ great-grandchildren. Ron's wife and kids were the greatest loves of his life. His affection for Ruby was visible and obvious. Every conversation included talk about his kids or grandkids. Family meant everything to Ron. His second love was auctions. If there was an auction to be found, Ron knew about it, talked about it, or was there. He was a collector of toys, tools or any random $1 box of junk. His wife and kids were often willing participants (or not) at the auction house. His countless treasures will tell stories for generations to come. Ron also had a strong faith in the Bible and the promise of a resurrection. He made many lifelong friends in the truth and will be remembered by all as an excellent speaker and brother. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Pathways to Compassion team for their loving care and support during his final days. We cannot measure our gratitude to "The Auction Mill" for the joy they brought to dad and the memories we will carry because of his time spent with the auction family. Ruby and the kids will accept visitors and friends on Monday, November 26th, from 2-5pm at "The Auction Mill" (Of course!), 1528 North Saddle Creek Road, Omaha, NE 68104. Everett Harley Peterson, the son of William Harley and Eldora Anna (Struve) Peterson, was born in rural Harlan, Iowa, on March 1, 1937. He attended country school at Rabbit Hollow, and graduated from Harlan High School in 1955. From 1955-57, Everett helped his father on the family farm. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1957-1961.

On August 16, 1960, Everett married Frieda Herta Schörner in Oberkotzau, Germany. The couple returned to Harlan in 1961 to farm northeast of town, where they raised hogs and helped Everett’s parents farm the family land. He also helped other family members in the area, as well as having other employment. Everett then began working for Western Electric in Millard, Nebraska; he remained in this job for 36 years. In the fall of 1970, Everett and Frieda moved to an 80-acre farm outside of McClelland, Iowa, where Everett continued to farm, raise hogs and cattle, and work at Western Electric. They moved to Oakland, Iowa, in the fall of 1992.

While living in Harlan, Everett had been a member of First Baptist Church. An avid John Deere collector, he loved to attend farm auctions and antique tractor and engine shows. He also enjoyed fishing in Minnesota. Everett only purchased Chevy trucks, and they were almost always blue in color. With a toothpick, hat, tire gauge, and pocket knife, Everett was truly ready for anything.

Emma E. "Betty" Evans
Evans, Emma E. "Betty"
11/10/1931 – 9/26/2018

Age 86 years of Omaha
Emma (Betty) Evans entered into rest on September 26, 2018. She felt comfort to be reunited with Michael her son, and Don her husband.

Betty was born on November 10, 1931 in Omaha, Nebraska. She graduated in 1950 at Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs. She married Don Evans on February 24, 1951.

They lived several places due to Military life and finally settled in Millard, Ne. She had two children, Michael and Teresa Evans. Her first love was to raise her children until they were in school, then became a keypunch operator at Western Electric. She retired from AT&T of Omaha, in 1988.

She kept busy helping with the grandchildren when needed and spent time at their favorite summer house on the riverbank near Niobrara with several family and friends. We had special memorable moments with them there.

As she and dad got older the house became too much and they sold the property. They continued to be very involved with their children, and grandchildren and gave herself unselfishly to them all. She was the most giving, family- oriented person I know.

Preceded in death by parents, Alfred and Elizabeth Kaufman; son, Michael Evans; brothers, Robert Kaufman, Bill Kaufman, John Kaufman, sister, Ruth Mahan.

Survived by daughter and husband Teresa and Joseph Sharpnack, daughter-in-law Sherry Evans, all of Omaha. Sister Phyllis King, El Sobrante, CA. Sister-in-law Jacqueline Polan, MO. Tom Risinger reported the late passing of Louis “Mack” Johnson. Mack retired from the Omaha Works on 2-10-1999
Louis "Mack" Johnson
Johnson, Louis "Mack"

9/30/1937 – 1/31/2018
Louis “Mack” Johnson was born in Ashland, NE in 1937 where he grew up and graduated from high school. He was drafted into the army and served two years in Korea before returning home. Once he was back on American soil, he began working road construction traveling near and far across Nebraska. While working on a highway near David City, he met a beautiful lady name Delores Rejda.

Mack and Dee married in 1965 and moved to Millard where they started a family and he began a new job at Western Electric. As an electrical worker, he joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). He had a strong work ethic and was devoted to his company, no matter what name it took (Western Electric, AT&T, Lucent). After many years of service, he officially retired in 1999.

During retirement, Mack and Dee frequently enjoyed traveling to Missouri, where they owned a cabin. They enjoyed the serenity of life on the lake including fishing, boating, nature, and relaxing with a beer in hand, oftentimes relaxing on the porch swing or down on the dock looking out over the water.

Mack also enjoyed country music, dancing to polka, and back in the day, bowling. Watching sports was one of his favorite pastimes. As most of us know, he was an avid Husker fan. It was not uncommon to see him with his favorite beverage, Old Milwaukee.

Throughout his life, Mack enjoyed the challenge of learning new things—he was a consummate do-it-yourselfer. Repairmen never frequented the Johnson house, because he was it! He repaired T.V.’s, cars, and everything and anything that was broken around the house. He also had a creative side and dove into the art of woodworking. He was savvy with computers, even writing programs to help him pick winning dogs at the race track.

Family and friends were very important to Mack. The past several years, he looked forward to weekly meetings with his buddies at the VFW or Legion for a bite to eat and a beer or two. He also loved hosting Friday night dinners for his family, which he and mom started many years ago.

Mack will be greatly missed, but we are at peace knowing he has once again reunited with the love of his life. We will forever carry his love in our hearts, until we meet again.

Mack was preceded in death by wife Delores Johnson; He is survived by his Daughters: Lynn Rutledge & husband Ed, Roni Wanser & husband Mark, Carla Johnson; Grandchildren: Matt, Andy, Justin, Adam, Melissa, Kristin, Brian, Aaron, Tara and several Great Grandchildren; Brother Tom Johnson & wife Denise; Many other relatives & friends

Steve Miller notified us of the passing of Paul from a post on the AT&T Facebook Page. Paul retired from the Omaha Works on 1/13/1996 with over 36 years of service.
Paul O. Hartung
August 22, 1941 - May 30, 2018

Paul O. Hartung, age 76 of Fremont
died Wednesday May 30, 2018 at Nye Legacy, Fremont.

Paul was born August 22, 1941 in Fremont to Obert and Helen (Mahel) Hartung. He was raised on the farm west of Fremont and attended BeeBee School District 63. Paul had been a member of the Saddle & Spurs 4-H Club.

He graduated from Fremont High in 1959 and served in the National Guard for 2 years. He worked at Western Electric, retiring after 36 1/2 years and then he had a part time job with Taylor & Martin Auctioneers.

Paul married Patricia Gerdes on June 29, 1974 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yutan. They resided in Yutan for several years before moving to Fremont and Lake Ventura in December 1978, where they were still living. Paul enjoyed bowling and was Bowler of the Year in 1972-73 and received many other bowling awards throughout the years. He was a Husker fan from the word GO, enjoying many season tickets to several Husker sports. His interest in old cars grew fast. His first of many old cars was a 1954 Chevy. His favorite was a 1957 black Chevy, but his red 1930 Chevy got the most conversation. He spent many hours restoring these vehicles. Other interests included serving on the church council and the church mowing crew, the lake and boating, and having a lot of company. He took great pride in caring for his lawn. Dancing was also a love of his as well as going on trips with friends. He enjoyed family gatherings and summer steak fries and Christmas.

In addition to his wife Pat, he is survived by daughter Kimberley Polen of Texas, granddaughters Brandis (Read) Cowern of Des Moines, Iowa and Kylee Polen of Fremont, 3 great grandchildren, Calvin, Genevieve, and Todd, sister-in-law Norma Hartung, nieces LeAnn Karmann, Shara Wagner, and nephew Kent Hartung, and many cousins. He will also be greatly missed by his dog ‘KC’ who had a special seat in the truck and in Paul’s heart.

The funeral service will be 11 AM Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yutan. Following the lunch, the committal will be in Memorial Cemetery, Fremont. Visitation will be at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel, Fremont, Monday from 3 to 7 PM with the family present 5 to 7 PM. Memorials are suggested to his church and Dodge County Humane Society.

Raymond Warren notified us of his brothers passing.  Paul worked in plant trades and productions and retired from the Omaha Works on 12-31-2005 with 33 years of service.
Paul D. Warren
Age 84 of Blair, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Crowell Home in Blair. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 1, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Country Bible Church in Blair. Luncheon will follow. Graveside services will be held at the Tekamah Cemetery at 1 PM. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 31 beginning at 4 PM with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM at Campbell Aman Funeral Home.

Paul grew up in rural Burt County near Decatur, Nebraska as one of six children born to George and Gertrude (Thomas) Warren. As with most depression era farm families, life would be considered tough by today’s standards. But life was full of love, hard work and games/competitions between siblings and friends. Paul attended Elm Creek Country School in rural Burt County and graduated from Decatur High School in 1950.

Paul married Beverly Jean Wedgewood of Tekamah, NE at a service in Council Bluffs, IA on July 12, 1954. Their marriage blessed them with 3 children; Rhonda (Steve) Baker of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Jeff (Julene) Warren of Blair, NE; and Joe (fiancée Roxane Bukowski) Warren of San Diego, CA. Grandchildren include Emily Kelley and Jackie (Jake) Foster, both of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Clay Warren of Blair, Nebraska and Kane (fiancée Breanne Magill) Warren of Tekamah, Nebraska. Great grandchildren Jacob and Kayelee Foster.

Paul was a member of Country Bible Church in Blair and faithfully served our Lord as a witness of his deep founded faith and as a role model through the Christian love he showed for others during his life. Paul was baptized into a life with Christ at First Baptist Church in Tekamah, NE. He knew that his life on earth was a precursor to an eternity in Heaven.

Paul spent the majority of his work life employed in various capacities at Western Electric/AT&T in Omaha. Through the years, many life-long friendships were formed through daily carpools to and from Blair and work. Paul retired from what had become Lucent Technologies in 1992 after 33 years, at age 59. For several years after retirement Paul worked for the Blair Golf Course mowing fairways and helping with course maintenance and then settled into what became a long “2nd career” as a delivery driver/dispatcher for Woodhouse Ford/Chrysler/Plymouth. He reluctantly gave up his driving duties in 2011 at the age of 78. He truly loved driving for Woodhouse and hanging out with the other “Geezers”.

Paul was an avid competitor and sportsman. He loved the spirit of a good game…most any game. Whether baseball or football in his youth or slow pitch softball, bowling, horseshoes or just about anything that could be turned into a competition as an adult, he had the uncanny ability to know that games were played as an enjoyment of life. If he won today but lost tomorrow, there was always the next day to try again. Cards, puzzles and board games could be the foundation of a good competition.
Paul loved all things outdoors. From gardening and yard work to hunting and fishing he undertook all projects with the same endless energy. He could make almost any activity into a sport if you wanted to challenge him on who could plant the most tomatoes or who could catch the most or biggest fish.

Paul and brother Raymond were perennial Horseshoe Pitching Champions at the 4th of July celebration in Tekamah. Each year they would show up and complain about how little practice time they had leading up to the event, just before they were again crowned champions. Summers typically included an annual fishing trip to Minnesota, most often with Mary Lou, Wedge, Kelly and Jay. Paul and Beverly enjoyed a number of trips to Las Vegas over the years usually joined by Raymond and Ann or Bob and LaDonna or other family and friends.

Paul loved his desserts and could always find room for a cookie or a piece of cake but he especially loved ice cream. Any flavor, topping, cone, bowl or milk shake. When offered ice cream bars with his meals at Crowell he was most often known to say; “Probably should.”

Paul was preceded in death by parents, George and Gertrude (Thomas) Warren. Father and mother-in-law Roy and Mamie (Johnson) Wedgewood. Brothers Tom and Lloyd Warren. Sisters Joan Dorn and Mary Lou Wedgewood. Brother-in-laws Tony Lewis, John Dorn, Lyle Wedgewood, Larry Hennig, Jerry Miles, Merwin Georgeson and Harold (Wedge) Wedgewood. Also preceding Paul were sister-in-laws Ardie Hennig, Evelyn Miles and Doris Georgeson. Also noted in passing, cousin and very special life’s friend, Bob Warren.

Paul is survived by his wife Beverly, children Rhonda (Steve), Jeff (Julene) and Joe (Roxane). Grandchildren Emily, Jackie (Jake), Clay and Kane (Breanne). Great grandchildren Jacob and Kayelee. Brother Raymond (Ann) Warren. Sister-in-laws Joyce Lewis and Joan Wedgewood. 38 nieces and nephews. And special family friend, LaDona Warren.

Steve Miller notified us of the passing of Marcus "Mark" Kennedy from a post on the AT&T Facebook page. Mark retired from the Omaha Works on 1/13/1996 with 35 years of service.

Marcus W. Kennedy
10/14/1936 – 5/16/2018
Marcus Wayne Kennedy was born on October 14, 1936 in Enid, Oklahoma, unto the union of Waldo E. Kennedy and Gertrude Johnson Kennedy Hicks. He departed this life on May 16, 2018 at the Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his first wife Charlotte Kennedy, both parents, sister Elvira Hicks and daughter Corita Garrette Reynolds. Marcus was educated at St. Benedict School, Technical High School and Omaha University in Omaha, Nebraska.

Marcus was employed for several years with Rosen Novak Cadillac, Omaha Packinghouse and retired as a supervisor after 35 years at Western Electric, which subsequently became AT&T.

He lived a life replete with many hobbies and interests which included working on cars, gardening, yard landscaping, golfing, playing cards, cooking and grilling with his friends and family.

He was always excited about traveling; whether traveling by car or plane, he felt it to be educationally enriching and the experience brought much joy and happiness to his life. His white Chevy station wagon, which he loved, carpooled many friends and co-workers back and forward to work and in the process got banged around from his acts of kindness and generosity. Amazingly however, he used his beloved white chevy station wagon to crisscross the United States visiting family in Oklahoma, Disneyland in California, Niagara Falls and elsewhere.

You could always find him loading up his car to assist his children’s Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, Baseball games/tournaments and stuffing every corner of any of his cars to move his children and grandchildren across the county to colleges, universities and away from home to seek new opportunities.

During his life of retirement Marcus Kennedy was a husband, father, uncle, brother in-law and best friend whose heart and home were like an empty bucket. His smiles and hugs were endless, and he always was available to hand them out even if you did not think you needed it.

Marcus leaves to cherish his wife Evelyn Faye Kennedy, daughter Marcia Kennedy, and son Charles Walker. Also, his daughters, Paulette Kennedy, Paula Kennedy (Alex), Wanda Kennedy, Angela Kennedy; son Wayne Kennedy (Gabrielle). Grandchildren Donatello Kennedy, Jahbari Kennedy and Kalen Ross plus a host of other relatives and friends.
